Summer Fun Since 1929!

Each year, thousands of Scouts have an unforgettable summer at Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Scout Reservation. Located in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan consists of over 1,500 acres of beautiful forest, six spring-fed lakes, and a natural creek. The reservation is home to two full-service camps, a wilderness camp, a high adventure base, and a horse ranch.

Committed to excellence for over 85 years, Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan is one of a handful of scout camps in the nation to receive a perfect accreditation rating from the BSA. Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan is located in Pearson, 25 miles northeast of Antigo, Wisconsin.

Our Subcamps

East Camp

East Camp comprises the “original” land of Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Scout Reservation, and thus has all the atmosphere and rich tradition of one of the oldest scout camps in the nation. Consisting of multiple programs, including a state-of-the-art Shooting Sports area, East Camp offers a rich unforgettable experience for youth and adults alike!

West Camp

West Camp comprises the newer part of Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Scout Reservation, the land for this camp being purchased in the 1950’s.  The camp began operation in 1959, and thus still has a rich tradition of many years. Similar to East Camp, West Camp is comprised of multiple program areas, a dining hall, and many campsites on the western coast of Lake Killian.

Wabaningo

For units seeking to design their own program, this is the ideal place.  You’ll have literally hundreds of acres to yourself with no schedule to keep but your own. Many units have used Wabaningo as a base camp, exploring the surrounding lakes, trails, and rivers during the day and returning “home to Wab” at night.  You could also set up an overnight to Wabaningo or visit during the day. Just let us know what you’d like to do and we’ll do our best to make it happen.

Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Scout Reservation offers scouts and leaders first class program and facilities. As a camp, we strive to meet your unit’s program needs and pride ourselves on providing customer service that goes beyond your expectations. Troops that visit Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan tend to return year after year and we always have something new for them. Our units find a second home in the Northwoods. For six weeks each summer, Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan’s two full-service camps, East Camp and West Camp, serve thousands of scouts from the Northeast Illinois Council and beyond. We offer scouts and adults alike many opportunities for fun and learning.

Each camp also operates a unique Pinnacle Area designed to challenge older scouts of at least 13 years of age or Star Rank. The Reservation Staff operates a number of program areas available to all scouts to add even more opportunities for adventure: The Climbing Wall, Horse Ranch, Cycling Base, Zip Line, and the Black Hole.

Never Too Young

This 4-Day, 3-Night experience  gives your Webelos the opportunity to gain a sense of independence, have fun in the great outdoors, and even earn advancements.  We are one of the premiere Boy Scout camps in the country, and gaining a sense of pride in our Boy Scout camp is often the key to keeping them in the program: From Star to Life, and the Trail to Eagle.

We encourage Webelos and Adults from the same Pack or Den to attend the same session when possible, so they can share this wonderful experience at Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Scout Reservation.  But, whether you attend as a Pack, Den, or family, you and your Webelos Scout will be able to participate in these potentially life-changing opportunities together.
