“I’m really happy with my decision to attend camp this year. The staff make up so much of the experience and they did awesome. ”
Join us at our overnight camp nestled in the scenic Northwoods.
Family Adventure Camp (formerly Akela Camp) is held at Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Scout Reservation in Pearson, Wisconsin. Cub Scouts will experience an immersive Scouting program, featuring activities such as swimming and boating at the waterfront, hiking, leatherworking, target sports, and overnight stays in the beautiful East Camp. Scouts will have access to the full resources of a world-class Scouting camp.
Your time at camp is certainly one you want to share alongside your fellow Den families, but it is not required. Your family is welcome to register for and attend camp, even if your Pack is unable to join. Also, families and Dens from the same Cub Scout Pack will camp together, even if separate registrations are completed. Contact Debi if you have questions about registering online (see Contacts for her email and others). If your Den has a Den Chief, they are welcome to participate!

This 4-Day, 3-Night experience allows your Cub Scout to gain a sense of independence and have unplugged off-screen fun, all while earning advancement and learning new skills. Campers can go swimming and boating at the waterfront, hiking around the camp, and work on their Scouting skills at a variety of different program areas.
“Camp was so beneficial for my Scout. They learned a ton, hiked all over the place, ate lots of good food (which is amazing since they are a picky picky eater), and brought home a reinvigorated sense of self. They told me they weren’t ready to leave as we departed because ‘this is the best thing I’ve ever done!’ Bravo Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan!”

Scout leaders and Camp Coordinators are encouraged to share this link with all families, even those who haven’t signed up for camp or asked about help yet.

Important Information
Family Adventure Camp is held in Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan’s East Camp, exclusively for Cub Scouts and their families. If other Pack members attend, we’ll place you near each other. Each campsite has pre-set platform tents with 2 cots, and you can bring your own tent if you want. Meals are served in the East Camp Dining Hall, with fun activities during mealtime led by our camp staff (you’re going to love it!).
Adult Supervision Requirements: To ensure our Scouts are safe, we adhere to Youth Protection requirements for Cub Scouts.
Your family is welcome to attend, even if your Den or Pack is not able to join.
Families and Packs will be assigned campsites to ensure that each site will have at least two adults.
If camping as a Pack, each Pack must have 2 adults minimum.
Any Pack with girls must have at least one female adult present (of the 2 minimum) to follow Youth Protection Guidelines.
Cub Scout Programs – Overnight Exception: Cub Scout parents or legal guardians taking part in an overnight Cub Scout program with their own child or legal ward are not required to register as leaders. All adults must review the “How to Protect your Children from Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide” that can be found in the front of each Cub Scout Handbook. In addition, the parent or legal guardian must be accompanied by a registered leader at any time they are with youth members other than their own child/ward. All other overnight adults must be currently registered in an adult fee required position.
In short: Our Camp Staff and the other registered leaders who are present fulfill this supervision requirement while families interact together in camp. Review the “How to Protect your Children from Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide” for further information.
“[The Staff] were an awesome and awesomely diverse group of people that cared well for our scouts. ”
